³ Don't be selfish; don't try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. ⁴ Don't look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

 

¹² Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. ¹³ For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.

• Don't be selfish
• Don't make impressing others your goal
• Be humble
• Do put others first
• Take an interest in others
• Don't connect obedience to a personality
• Obey "the" Person not a person
• Listen to God desires

Applications

• Don't use social media for my agenda
• Spend more time "surfing" with an interest in others
• Obey Jesus!
• Listen to Jesus' desires

Prayer

God, these two scriptures bookend a beautiful passage about You and your humility. I ask that you make them the foundation of my life. You saved me to be other's focused. Train my sensitivity to listen and obey Your Spirit.
